Rochester, UK—Horses don’t need human help to get in trouble; they often do it on their own.  This is another reason why it is important to microchip and register your equines.

On August 10, Kent Fire & Rescue Service had to be called in to free a stallion after he tried going over a gate to get at a herd of mares.  Walkers spotted the stallion hanging over the gate and called the RSPCA for help.

Inspector Tina Nash answered the call.  “It seems this lovely lad isn’t the greatest showjumper and got himself stuck halfway!  If he’d have spent a little more time looking and investigating, he’d have realized that he could have walked along the fence-line a little further; he could have just trotted around to see his lady friends.”

The Kent Fire & Rescue were successfully able to get straps underneath the horse and carefully winched up and off the gate back onto all four hooves.  He only needed pain relief from a vet at the scene and is expected to make a full recovery.

This story had a happy ending.  Not all stories end this way.  Equines find ways to get loose and lost all the time.  Take time to help insure your equine has a happy ending if he decides to leave his home on his own.
