A retired racehorse and a show pony were shot and killed sometime between 11:20 pm and midnight Thursday, September 24th at a farm in Monkton, Maryland.
Their owner, who was keeping them at her boyfriend’s pasture while her own pastures were undergoing maintenance, discovered the carnage when she went to feed her horses Friday morning. One was dead while the other died while trying to rise upon seeing her. Both were found deceased by Harford County deputies when they arrived at the farm on the 4100 block of Old York Road at 6:03 Friday morning.
Tenants reported hearing gunshots between 11 pm and midnight but attributed the sound to hunters.
Police suspect someone close to the farm of being responsible for killing the horses and are not attributing it to a random act of violence.
Authorities are offering a $2,000 reward for information about the killing of Chantilly ‘Tilly’ Lace and Hey Kid. Anyone with information about the horse killings is asked to call Detective Hall at the Harford County Sheriff’s Office at 410-836-5433.
Anyone wishing to qualify for the $2,000 reward and remain anonymous may either file a tip online to Major Crime Stoppers, text them at 274637 with MCS plus message, or call Harford Crime Solvers at 1-888-540-8477.
