NetPosse Seeks Owner of Horse Hit in Oklahoma

He was hit by a car and left suffering on a roadside in Spencer, OK — and he died there. His family may still not know.

HE DIED WITHOUT HELP. DO YOU RECOGNIZE HIM?

On June 30, a horse was struck by a vehicle near 63rd St & Post Rd in Spencer, OK — and left there, suffering, on the side of the road. A dark brown horse in a bridle. Someone's horse. And now he's gone.

He died, as far as we know, without a vet to ease his pain. Without treatment for injuries witnesses described as severe — possibly a broken back. Without anyone who could say whether he might have been saved. We don't know if anyone stayed with him, spoke to him, or simply kept him company, so he didn't have to die alone and unseen on a roadside. That not-knowing is its own kind of heartbreak — and it's why we're writing this.

What people said when they saw the horse on this post:

  • "How did you hit a horse and not stop!"
  • "I wonder how long the horse lived in extreme pain until it died... Poor thing."
  • "Why didn't YOU call the local sheriff, a veterinarian, and sit with it until help arrived?"
  • "Use this post as a learning opportunity for others... educating others about kindness, patience, and proper human compassion."

At Stolen Horse International / NetPosse, we are the lost and found of the horse industry. We reunite missing horses with their people — and right now, we're trying to find a missing owner, so this horse's family can know what happened to him.

His family could be right down the road: a fence down, a gate left open, a horse that slipped out at dawn. Or they could be miles away. Horses run blind with fear for miles after a wreck. They get loose from trailers on highways. They are stolen, moved far from home, and dumped. A horse found on a roadside is never "just" a local horse.

So we're asking everyone — near AND far — to look closely and share widely:

  • Found June 30 near 63rd St & Post Rd, Spencer, OK
  • Dark brown horse, black mane and tail, wearing a bridle
  • Believed to have severe injuries and may have died

We're sharing this based on a Facebook post from June 30 — we weren't there, and we don't know everything that happened. We understand he may not have survived his injuries. What we don't know is whether anyone checked for a microchip, a brand, a tattoo, or any identifying marks—the things that could have given him his name back and led us to his family. If you were there that day, or you know who responded, please reach out and tell us what was done.

If you recognize him, please contact us — and share this beyond Spencer, beyond Oklahoma. Even if he's gone, his family deserves to know what happened to him, to mourn him, and to finally have closure.

Secondly — so his suffering teaches something — if YOU ever find a horse hit by a car:

  1. Stop safely, hazards on, well off the road.
  2. Call 911 with the exact location.
  3. Call animal control or the county sheriff.
  4. Don't move him; keep your distance from his legs and head — but stay nearby so he's not alone.
  5. Document markings, tack, brands, and any vehicle info if the driver left.
  6. Check ID. Ask animal control or a vet to scan for a microchip, and look for brands, tattoos, or freeze marks. A horse can't tell you his name — his ID is often the only way he gets identified and finds his way back to his family.
  7. Call a vet or equine rescue — only they or law enforcement decide on euthanasia.
  8. Report a hit-and-run to police.

He deserved help. He deserved his family. Help us find them. Share.
