FREETOWN — A Freetown horse has been missing since Saturday, leaving behind owners desperate to find her.

Kristin Soares said she last saw Flash — a black, 19-year-old Morgan — with two other women and horses on a ride in the woods near Freetown-Fall River State Forest.

One of the women had just fallen off Flash, who apparently had been spooked, according to Soares, who said that as she tended to the downed rider, Flash began calmly heading back in the direction of her house about 2 miles way.

"We were following right behind it," Soares said. But "it never made its way home. We never saw it after that."

Upon discovering the horse was gone, Soares said, she and her companions searched the woods. She and her husband, Mike Soares, have been looking every day since.

Yet despite help from scores of volunteers from the region and beyond, staff from the Animal Rescue League of Boston, animal control in Freetown, Dartmouth and Westport, the state Department of Conservation and Recreation and searches by foot, by horseback, with tracking dogs and even by private airplane, Flash had yet to be found by 5 p.m. Thursday.
