Bennet, Colorado (28/August/2020)—Boo, a 21-year-old performance horse, was shot and killed execution-style somewhere between 9 pm Sunday night and 3 am Monday morning around E 56^th Avenue and Peterson Road in Bennet. Bennet is located about 36 driving miles east of Denver.

Maggie's mother called her on Monday morning and asked her to check Boo. that is when she found Boo in the middle of the pasture, dead with a gunshot to the head. 

Seventeen-year-old Maggie Dickinson has owned Boo since she was 4 years old. She began riding him when she was 9. They competed in barrel racing and western performance events, winning two saddles and more than two dozen buckles at competitions. The pair won saddles, buckles, and more while competing together. 

More importantly, Boo was Maggie’s best friend, always untying himself to come and find her, and consoling her when life got tough. In 2015 Boo continued competing despite being diagnosed with cancer, which was removed and going blind in one eye.

Recently retired from competition, Boo was enjoying the evening out in the pasture when he was shot. No bullet casings were found at the scene.
