Broken Bow Horse Abuse Case Heats up in the McCurtain County Gazette

02 January 2024

Every day, countless horses suffer and die at the hands of the very people who are supposed to care for and protect them. Physical violence, emotional abuse, and life-threatening neglect are daily realities for many. Their only hope is that a kind person will speak up before it's too late. Read on to learn more about the Broken Bow, Oklahoma cases listed with Stolen Horse International and the updates played out from both sides of this issue in the McCurtain County Gazette newspaper.

It is important to note that several of the horses alleged to be involved in this case, involving Kathrin Bolton, her 'sanctuary,' and officers, started with a report filed with Stolen Horse International by Paula Vrana, who had three missing Lippet Morgan horses who disappeared in transport in Bolton's care.

Bolton told Vrana that her horses died in a tornado in Broken Bow. Vrana later found the two mares were alive on Bolton's property in Broken Bow. Ike, the Lippett Morgan stallion, is still missing.

Now, for the rest of the story, as told in the McCurtain County Gazette articles and letters to the editor from both sides of the story.

The first McCurtain County Gazette article was about the alleged abuse of horses on Kathrin Bolton's property for Sunray Equine Training and Sanctuary,
which was operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Stolen Horse International and a private investigator have not found any
documentation on the IRS website that supports this claim.

Bonnie Kohleiter's letter to the editor of the McCurtain County Gazette. We apologize for the article being hard to read. The Gazette does not have online articles, and screenshots of the article are all that we have.
In this letter to the editor, Bonnie states that the article, 'Restitution Hearing Set for Massive Animal Cruelty Case, appears to have numerous sensational, exaggerated statements.
Bonnie Kohleriter signs the letter with her name, email address, bkohlerite@yahoo.com, Science Educator, and Manager.
