Stolen Horse International Scales Back Programs

After more than 28 years of dedicated service to the equine community, Stolen Horse International, NetPosse, the first and only nonprofit organization of its kind in the world, will be discontinuing our most essential programs due to a lack of funding and insufficient volunteers to perform daily tasks. Unfortunately, we did not meet our fundraising goals for 2025, and the difficult decision has been made to scale back.

Founded by Debi and Harold Metcalfe following the theft of their horse, Idaho, in 1997, Stolen Horse International began as a stolen-horse service. Over the years, our organization has worked tirelessly to help owners locate past horses they loved, missing horses, runaway horses, disaster-related losses, and civil cases—assisting as many people as possible who faced the heartbreak of losing a horse. To date, we have worked with over 8,000 cases, providing invaluable tools, education on protecting horses, equine identification, and search and recovery assistance.

Social media platforms have since copied the concept pioneered by Stolen Horse International, and now we turn the reins over to those who help. Most people on these platforms do not realize that Stolen Horse International is a nonprofit organization with a website and helpful tools second to none—not just a social media platform. We are proud to have taught the world to 'sing' when it comes to the search and recovery of horses, and we appreciate those who have copied our efforts.

The public has spoken, and it is time to close the most expensive programs so that we can continue offering educational outreach. Our programs will officially close in the first quarter of 2026. At this time, we do not know what capacity we will have going forward, but we remain committed to sharing knowledge and resources wherever possible.
