Our pony went missing from our pasture under suspicious circumstances. Never one to break a fence post, we noticed that one was snapped off at the ground shortly after her disappearance. No one saw or heard anything. We hired a thermal drone service, and they too thought the situation was suspicious, and that our pony may have been stolen.
At this point, I filed a report with Stolen Horse International. A week after, after many shares of my post about our missing pony (many of these shares coming from Stolen Horse and their volunteers and followers), I received a tip that would lead to the recovery of our pony. She had been dyed, mane and tail cut, and hidden in a barn.
Law enforcement was contacted, and with repeated pressure from law enforcement visits and presence, our pony was released near our home and left to fend for herself until she was found. Fortunately, she was spotted by quick-acting neighbors and sustained no harm.
Stolen Horse continued to support me, contacting both our detective and our prosecutor. They provided them with education on horse theft and provided them with resources and previous case documentation to demonstrate that this is not a crime to be taken lightly or brushed off.
As of the time of my writing, four juveniles and one adult are facing felony charges related to the theft of our pony. Without the help of Stolen Horse International, I have no doubt this crime would have been brushed off. Stolen Horse continues to be a sounding board, a reassuring voice, a source of sanity, a wealth of information, and a truly wonderful help.
