Horses can go missing for many reasons. Horses sold or given away, or even adopted out with a contract may not be protected. Here are some open cases filed with Netposse.org:
According to the incident report:
Bo, a bay tobiano paint mare, was adopted out to a woman residing in Ozone Park, N.Y. in Sept 2012. Per adoption contract, moving Bo required notification to the rescue that re-homed the horse. In January, 2013 the rescue made a surprise visit and it appeared the horse had been moved.
After a year-long attempt to reach the adopter, the rescue was told she was moved to different farms, for training. However, in Sept 2014, the rescue found out Bo was actually sold to horse dealer in Long Island, Indian Head, sometime between December, 2012 and January, 2013.
The dealer would not say who bought Bo and the trail went cold.
The rescue just wants to know where the mare is and if she's for sale they would buy her back.
Bo is 18 years old, stands 15 hands tall and is not microchipped.
