How To Post Info With Stolen Horse International

Image

There are three ways reports can be posted with Stolen Horse International. The standard NetPosse Alert is the only alert that benefits from Stolen Horse International's 28 years of expertise and network.

Standard NetPosse Alerts within the NetPosse Network

Once a report for a missing or stolen horse is filed on the Stolen Horse International website, www.netposse.com, the organization generates a "NetPosse Alert".

This functions like an "Amber Alert" for equines, broadcasting information rapidly to a vast network of volunteers, organizations, and law enforcement.

Here's a quick overview of how the NetPosse Alert system works:

  • Report filing: After an owner creates an account and files a report on the website, a unique webpage and printable flyer are automatically created with specific details and photos of the animal.
  • Widespread distribution: Stolen Horse International sends the alert to its extensive network via email newsletters, social media platforms like Facebook and X (@NetPosse), and various other channels. The report is also indexed by search engines, making it discoverable for years.
  • Community sharing: The NetPosse network, which includes the Facebook group mentioned in your query, shares the alert widely. This helps mobilize the horse community to watch for and identify the missing animal.
  • Free and low-cost options: A basic report with a webpage and flyer is available for a one-time fee, with the option to purchase additional features.
  • Found Horse Report: A "found" report is completely free.

In addition to its website (netposse.com) and the Facebook groups, Stolen, Missing, Found, Find An Old Friend & Past Owner Horse Search, and Stolen Horse International (NetPosse) use several other social media and online platforms to distribute alerts and connect with the community.

Here are the other leading platforms they utilize:

  • X (formerly Twitter): Used for quick updates and vital information, their handle is @NetPosse.
  • Instagram: Features visual content, including photos and videos related to alerts and other efforts. Their handle is @netposse_official.
  • TikTok: Used to share video content related to alerts and general awareness within the equestrian community.
  • LinkedIn: Helps them engage with professionals in the equestrian and related industries.
  • YouTube: A platform for educational resources, awareness videos, and showcasing success stories.
  • Email Newsletter: They have a large subscriber base for their "NetPosse News" email alerts, which are sent to supporters to keep them updated on missing and stolen equines.

How can I post information on the Facebook Group?

While Stolen Horse International only creates and distributes alerts for cases filed on its website, anyone can post information directly in the Facebook group, Stolen, Missing, Found, Find An Old Friend & Past Owner Horse Search. The  Facebook group is a community forum where members can help spread the word about cases from various sources. These posts are created and shared directly by the person posting the information.

How to post in the Facebook group

  • Go to the group's page: Stolen, Missing, Found, Find An Old Friend & Past Owner Horse Search.
  • Click the "Write something..." box.
  • Add your text, and be sure to include a good description and location details.
  • Attach any relevant photos or videos by clicking the photo/video icon.
  • Click the "Post" button. The post may need to be approved by a group administrator before it's publicly visible.

Understanding the Difference: NetPosse Standard Alerts vs New Facebook Quick Alerts

A new "NetPosse Quick Alert" is a rapid notification system, an unverified one, introduced by Stolen Horse International to meet the growing demand for instant information.  Unlike the more thorough NetPosse Alerts that undergo a verification process, Quick Alerts are:

  • Created directly by the person filing the information on the netposse.com website.
  • A link to the filer's post on Facebook can be used to copy the information on the NetPosse Network page.
  • Stolen Horse International volunteers post the info to the official page
  • Stolen Horse International does not share these alerts throughout the NetPosse Network.
  • If the information is controversial, false, or in bad taste, page admins can edit or remove it.

How it works and why it was introduced

  • Instant visibility: As soon as the owner files a report, a Quick Alert is created and becomes visible on the Facebook page when a volunteer posts it under the page name. It is not distributed through NetPosse's social media channels.
  • Response to "instant" technology: This system was developed in response to the rapid pace of the digital age, where some people prioritize instant sharing over waiting for a more comprehensive, verified report.
  • Faster, less verified: The trade-off for this speed is that the information in a Quick Alert is not verified by Stolen Horse International staff beforehand. It represents one person's account of an incident, and Stolen Horse International volunteer staff do not share them within the NetPosse Network system.
  • Community oversight: For transparency, the Quick Alert post can be reported to the page admin and may be removed without notice. This enables anyone who believes a report is false or incorrect to flag it, prompting a review.

The difference between Quick Alerts and standard NetPosse Alerts

  • Standard Alerts: These are a more traditional, verified system where Stolen Horse International staff work directly with the owner to gather all necessary information before distributing the alert. These are more authoritative and have been a core part of the organization's approach for decades.
  • Quick Alerts: These are designed for immediate speed and leverage the community for initial visibility. They cater to users who want to share information immediately, without waiting for the verification process.
  • Post Monitoring: Stolen Horse International reserves the right to modify or delete these posts at its discretion without providing any explanation.
