JAMES CITY - Marianne Bobskill found out Thursday morning that her horse had gone missing from his stall overnight. She believes someone walked in and took him.

Bobskill said around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday she paid her 9-year-old Hanoverian-Thoroughbred horse Windchill, who also answers to "Jos," a visit at Willow Pond Farm on Forge Road, fed him and headed home for the night. She recounted when the horse's caretaker called she said the horse been there when she locked up at 10 p.m. the night before, but was gone Thursday morning.

Bobskill said the curious thing was that the stall was closed and latched as were the gates on the property.

"When she (the caretaker) returned this morning she noticed the stall was empty, and that the door was latched and secured with a bungee cord but it wasn’t how she had left it," said Maj. Stephen Rubino with James City County Police in an interview Thursday.

He said the caretaker searched the property for the horse, contacted the owner, and made the determination that someone had come into her barn and taken the horse.

Bobskill agrees.

"What we think is that somebody has been watching who knows the schedule and picked my horse and took him, “ she said.

She believes whoever stole her horse came into the barn in the early morning hours, put a halter on Windchill, closed and latched his stall and walked him off the property. She said people live on the property, so if anyone had driven a horse trailer up to the barn, someone would have heard it.
