What You’ll Need
Your Contact Information

Use current, reliable contact info.

  • Full name
  • Phone number (cell preferred)
  • Email address
  • City, state, and country

👉 Tip: Use the contact info you answer quickly. Time matters.

Type of Report

Be ready to select one:

  • Stolen
  • Missing
  • Lost
  • Found
  • Searching (civil)
  • History of a horse you have purchased or one you once knew

If you’re unsure, NetPosse can help determine the best category based on the circumstances.

Animal Details (Be Very Specific)

The more detail, the easier identification becomes.

For horses:

  • Name (registered and barn name)
  • Age or estimated age
  • Breed or breed type
  • Sex (mare, gelding, stallion)
  • Height
  • Color and markings
  • Brands, scars, tattoos, microchip (if any)
  • Distinct traits (behavior, gait, habits, injuries)

For other animals:

  • Species
  • Breed/type
  • Color/markings
  • Size/weight
  • Any unique identifiers

Photos (Extremely Important)

Upload clear, recent photos:

  • Both sides of the animal
  • Front and rear views
  • Close-ups of markings, scars, brands, or injuries
  • Any identifying tack or equipment (if relevant)
  • Avoid filters, heavy editing, or low-resolution images.
  • Do not send screenshots

Last Known Location & Date

  • Exact city, state, and county
  • Date and approximate time last seen
  • Address or landmark if safe to share

This helps alerts reach the right geographic area.

What Happened (Short but Factual)

Write a clear timeline, not speculation. Include:

  • Who last had custody
  • How the animal disappeared
  • Whether permission was given
  • Any witnesses or communications (texts, ads, bills of sale, etc.)

Stick to facts — this matters for civil vs. criminal review.

Law Enforcement Info (If Applicable)

If you’ve reported it:

  • Police or sheriff’s department name
  • Case or incident number
  • Officer name (if available)

This adds credibility and helps agencies coordinate. If you do not possess this information at the time of submitting your documents, we can obtain the information after your submission. Do not allow this to delay your filing process.

Supporting Documents (If You Have Them)

Optional but helpful:

  • Proof of ownership
  • Registration papers
  • Vet or farrier records
  • Boarding or lease agreements

After You File

✔ Your report is placed in the NetPosse database
✔ It becomes searchable by auctions, rescues, buyers, and law enforcement
✔ Alerts can be shared through NetPosse / Stolen Horse International networks
✔ You can update or edit the report anytime

Important Reminders

  • NetPosse is not just social media — reports are archived, indexed, and used by professionals
  • Details matter more than emotion
  • Updates help keep the report active and visible

Reports remain on our websites even after an animal is recovered. Once resolved, cases are moved to a designated section of the site that documents successful recoveries and resolved cases. This ongoing record helps raise awareness, supports investigations, and demonstrates that these cases do get solved.
