JACKSON, Neb. | Authorities are searching for the owners of an emaciated horse found at an abandoned farm in rural Jackson, Neb.
The female horse was alone in a pasture at 120th Street and M Avenue, 4 miles north of Jackson. Officials say the horse didn't have any water.
It could be a thoroughbred or a quarter horse, said Dakota County sheriff's Chief Deputy Tim Decker.
The mare is bay: Brown with black legs, mane and tail. Her left hind leg is white up to her ankle.
The horse has tattoo on the inside of her lip, a method often used to identify racehorses. Officials haven't yet determined her age. The animal is in foster care.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Dakota County Sheriff's Office at 402-494-7555. -- Molly Montag
