Stolen Horse International-NetPosse Announces Temporary Suspension of Victim’s Services Program
Stolen Horse International–NetPosse has long been a lifeline for victims of horse theft, missing equines, and disaster-related displacement. Today, we are announcing an important but temporary change: our Victim’s Services program will be suspended until we have the volunteer support necessary to operate at the standard of effectiveness our victims deserve.
This decision was not made lightly. For decades, our volunteers have worked tirelessly to help owners during some of the most stressful moments of their lives. Their dedication has allowed NetPosse to grow far beyond what anyone imagined when the organization began with the theft of a single horse—Idaho, the horse whose disappearance started a movement and ultimately built Stolen Horse International.
As our services expanded, so did the number of victims who needed us. Today, the volume of cases, communications, and daily operational tasks has outgrown the capacity of our current volunteer team. To uphold our commitment to timely, accurate, and compassionate support, we must strengthen our volunteer structure before continuing the Victim’s Services program.
Why We’re Pausing the Program
We are currently facing a critical gap:
We need a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator.
This role is essential for:
Without a Volunteer Coordinator to rally and manage the many moving parts, we cannot operate the program at the level of excellence victims depend on.
Until this position is filled, Victim’s Services will remain temporarily suspended.
Support Still Available: Use Our Quick Alert Program
While full Victim Services are paused, victims can still take immediate action through our Quick Alert program.
This tool allows owners to generate an instant alert, share information quickly, and begin mobilizing their community while our team works behind the scenes to rebuild volunteer leadership.
We encourage anyone with a missing or stolen horse to continue using Quick Alerts as their first step.
How You Can Help
Our ability to restore Victim Services depends on finding the right Volunteer Coordinator. If you—or someone you know—has strong organizational skills, enjoys working with people, and cares about helping equine owners in crisis, we welcome your application.
This is a deeply meaningful role. Coordinators make it possible for our volunteers to support victims nationwide. With your help, we can once again offer the full level of service that has defined NetPosse from the beginning.
A Growing Mission, Rooted in Idaho’s Story
Stolen Horse International was founded after the theft of Idaho, a beloved horse whose case laid the foundation for the first missing and stolen horse alert system of its kind. From that single incident, NetPosse grew into a trusted resource for thousands of horse owners across the U.S. and beyond.
Today, our mission is bigger than ever—and so is the need for committed volunteer leadership.
We remain dedicated to Idaho’s legacy, to the victims we serve, and to the future of NetPosse.
Thank You for Standing with Us
We are grateful for your patience and understanding as we strengthen our organization. This pause is temporary, but necessary, and we look forward to returning with improved structure, renewed support, and a strong volunteer team guided by a capable coordinator.
Together, we will continue to make a difference for horses and their owners.
Stolen Horse International provides news and other resources for free on this website. As a charitable organization we survive on the kindness of people like you. Please consider donating to help fund the organization or purchasing a NetPosse ID for your horse, dog or cat to help protect your beloved animals!
