NC 7 flyerWINSTON-SALEM May 8, 2013 -- The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is searching for a horse thief.

On April 29, the horses were taken from a barn and pasture off of Germanton Road. Amanda Bechtel went to check on her horses last week to find all seven gone.

"The hatch that goes into the back room had been broke off and every bit of equipment and tack and supplies for the horseshad been removed," Bechtel said. "So I went out to the pasture to check on the horses and they had been removed as well."

The horses and equipment, also owned by Carlos Ervin, are worth an estimated $40,000.

"They even took my buckets," Bechtel said. "I mean they got everything."

The owners said the horses have unique markings, colors and patterns. The horses were mostly used for trail riding, giving lessons and some were getting trained to compete in horse shows.

Bechtel said some of the horses have special medical needs, so she's worried for their well-being. The Sheriff's office said they have been busy investigating leads.

"We've put word out to different agencies and entities that would possibly have some dealing with horses or equipment," Chief Deputy Brad Stanley said.

The owners and authorities have also been searching for the seven horses throughout the state at horse auctions.

For now they are still working to get the word out and hope someone will come forward with information soon. Authorities said stealing a horse is a felony.

Anyone with any information about these thefts can call Crime Stoppers at 336-727-2800.
