NILES - A horse that was recently reported missing at a farm in the town of Niles was found deceased Saturday in a nearby cornfield, according to her owners Suzanne and Rodger Head.
The 30-year-old American Paint mare named Guernsey was last seen Monday morning when Suzanne went out to feed the horses at her farm on Route 41A. The couple then called police Tuesday when they couldn't find Guernsey, worried she had been stolen.
The Heads also contacted Stolen Horse International, a nonprofit organization, which reached out to local drone pilots to help search for Guernsey. After searching Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, the horse was found.
"Unfortunately, it is not the news that we had hoped for as she was deceased," Stolen Horse International wrote in a press release. "We are all thankful for everyone that took their time to help with the search for Guernsey... and we would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Head family for their loss of their beloved horse."
