Idaho, The Stolen Horse Who Started It All

Today, we celebrate a moment that changed countless lives for the better. Twenty-seven years ago today, on September 26, 1998, the stolen mare Idaho was finally returned home.

Idaho was stolen from her pasture on September 26, 1997. After a 51-week search, her owners, Debi and Harold Metcalfe, found her and brought her home. Their journey inspired them to ensure no other family would have to face such a frightening ordeal alone.

That single, determined search for one horse ultimately led to the creation of Stolen Horse International, also known as the NetPosse Alert Network. What began with hope for a single stolen horse has evolved into a powerful network that has reunited thousands of horses and owners over the past two decades.

Today, we honor Idaho and her incredible legacy. Her story reminds us that with hope, persistence, and a strong community, miracles can happen.

Since Stolen Horse International is a volunteer-run nonprofit, financial support is crucial for its operations, and the anniversary serves as a powerful reminder about the difference a single contribution can make.
