SHELBY, N.C. -- Never Underestimate the power of one small nonprofit organization!
A pony reported missing from his home in Shelby by Stolen Horse International was found Saturday about a half mile from home. Sammie's owner, Marianne Miller, was especially worried because of the heat and the pony's advanced age – he's 37 years old.
NetPosse.com's Debi Metcalfe, husband, family, friends and volunteers searched for Sammie in the Zion Community by foot, car and canoe. It is rare opportunity that allows the Metcalfe's to help a neighbor the way they did Marianne Miller and Sammie.
The woman who first spotted Sammie walking out of the woods says she nearly hit him. She thought that it was the pony in the Stolen Horse International flyer at the community store, Kebos. She also recognized him from the first news article in the Shelby Star.
Stolen Horse International is responsible for the flyer in the store, thousands of NetPosse.com Alerts posted on the Internet and is the organization that alerted the Shelby Star about Sammie's disappearance, working with the Star reporter on the news article.
Debi Metcalfe, founder of Stolen Horse International would like to thank everyone who helped in any way to bring Sammie home.
"We are so glad to be a crucial part of bringing Sammie home. We are so thankful that Cathy Brissie took the time to stop when she saw Sammie," says Metcalfe
PETA offered a $1000 dollar reward for Sammie after hearing about him through the Shelby Star
8:30 a.m. - Sammie is home!!! He jumped out of the woods about a half of mile from his home. He is really skinny and he is dehydrated. The lady that found him was driving a dark blue pick up truck and was on her way to work when Sammie jumped out. A neighbor in the community, Lynn Allen was passing by when she saw Sammie and the lady and stopped. She walked Sammie home to Marianne. Her husband woke her up to tell her to go outside. When she walked out and there was Sammie! I will have more details and pictures later! MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!!
