Description : The palomino was being advertised on craigslist for sale, as a 12 year old trail horse. She claimed the horse was very quite and pokey, they used her for trails for her boyfriend. He wanted a horse with more spirit, so they decided to sell her. I went to see her on 4-22-2012, when I arrived they met me at the end of their driveway. Could not see the house or barn but could here other horses in the distance. The mare was already saddled and they had been running her on the gravel road. She was heated/lathered with sweat and breathing hard. The mare was thin and dehydrated, severely lame on her RR foot. I checked her over and found she had an abscess in the RR hoof. At times of rest she did not even want to put weight on the foot. I told the man riding her to get off, and I processed to tell them that I was not happy about the condition of the mare they started to play dumb at first, saying the vet was just out the day before and there was nothing wrong with her and that I was lying. They proceded to get very defensive and then the story changed and the horse belonged to her brother. The horse wasn't hers and it was not her problem. Her brother brought the horse from Texas and she only had her for the last 3 days. Never told me there was a tatoo on her lip. The people got very rude and irritated with me. I left and drove down the road and sat for a minute but I couldn't leave the mare there. I called them back and told them I can help the mare and pay her medical bills, but I would not buy her for what they wanted. They had started at 650.00 went down to 350.00 and then came down to 150.00. I left a deposite of $100.00 and wrote up a receipt and we both signed it. I was picking up the mare the next day about 12 noon. The next day the phone calls and texts started about 8:30am. They were very irrate that I had not picked up the mare yet. Over the next couple hours their calls became more frequent and they became more irrate. They said they refuse to feed or water her since she is not there horse. I recieved a text from them to go do there grocery shopping, along with a detailed list of items to buy. (I still have the texts). When I refused they gave me an hour to pick up the mare or they were shooting her. It takes me over an hour to drive there and I still had to hitch up my trailer and get gas. She said it wasn't her problem they were giving me an hour. I made it there in an hour and 20 minutes. The mare was very depressed, walking with her head down and hardly putting weight on her foot. She didn't want to get in the trailer because she would have to put her weight on that foot. It took us about 10 minutes to finally get her in, I had some hay in the trailer luckily. I asked for some water for her but they refused. I wrote up a receipt for the last $50.00 that I owed but she refused to sign it. I told her to sign it or I was returning with the animal control and police. She grabbed the paper and made a few little circles for her signature. I gave it back to her and told her to sign it again, this time where it can be read. She signed it again. We drove off. I have seen several other horses that they have had on craigslist since I purchased the mare. I asked for the paperwork when the vet was out to check her and she said that I didn't pay enough for her so I don't deserve it.
