Name: Whiskey Gender: Gelding Species: Horse Breed: QH cross Description: Sometime on the evening of Tuesday, February 7th, after 8 PM, Whiskey was stolen out of his paddock. Blaze on face, white stocking on hind legs, white socks on front, hind upper right stocking resembles lightning bolt pattern, white 3" circular mark on right side barrel/belly. Our morning volunteers alerted us that Whiskey was not in his paddock when they arrived for morning chores. We immediately started checking gates, fences, etc. for any clue as to how he got out of his paddock. The gate between Whiskey and Ty's paddocks was open yet Ty was still in his paddock, as was Bella who is in the adjoining paddock. Matt hopped in the Gator to search the entire 40 acres while I got in the car and drove down Suzan Drive. I parked the car on Suzan Drive and walked down the dirt road in front of Whiskey and Ty's paddock looking for hoof prints in the dirt. To my absolute horror, I found fresh prints in the dirt along with vehicle tracks! We called the Charlotte County Sheriff's Department to report a stolen horse and the first deputy arrived soon after. We found several clues in all of the Southside paddocks and we found the small clearing where we believe Whisky was led out onto the dirt road. The Ag Detective was dispatched and continued the investigation finding even more evidence of a horse being led out through the small clearing, down into the ditch, and up onto the dirt road. If you were in the area of State Road 31 & Suzan Drive, near the Lee/Charlotte county line and you saw anything out of the ordinary, please call the Charlotte County Sheriff's Department and report it. No clue is too small, if you saw a vehicle with a horse trailer, a vehicle parked looking into South West Florida Horse Rescue, Inc., or anything at all that may have looked suspicious, call the Sheriff's Department. 941-639-2101.
