Crystal's Story by Dottie Reed
I was called in to the barn one night to respond to a call that our little mini mare and donkey were out. I was there in 15 minutes but could not find them anywhere. The gate was open that I am positive was latched before going home that day. It was dark and an electrical storm was brewing so I left knowing that they would not wander far from the barn.
The next day the donkey was right outside of her area but no sign of the little mare. Staff, volunteers, and I searched the farm carefully that morning then immediately reported her stolen.
I was then made aware of the Netposse and SHI. You got info out about Crystal even before we could get a picture to you. I really appreciated the time you took in which you gave me valuable information about how to go about recovering stolen horses and the methods thief's use in stealing them. I was astonished at the number of horses that are stolen.
I took your advice and kept in constant contact with the detective. I feel this was vital in Crystal's recovery in keeping her on the detective's mind. When he saw a trailer with a little miniature horse in it, he immediately pulled the driver over. Because of his long record of stealing, the thief was jailed. Unfortunately he was released on bond and is now a fugitive.
Not too long after Crystal returned a baby was born...
