My friend [Jeanne, Burt’s owner] was selling her horse to this woman who also stated she also ran a rehab/rescue place. I thought long and hard about letting her take my horse Spot, that had a hip injury. I was having to keep her separated from the herd and her best friend in the pasture which caused her to just stand and sway and rock. Not good for her injury. It was hard on me to let her go but I thought it would be best for her. I was told she would be in a pasture with Burt and one other horse.
From time to time, I would ask Jeanne how the horses were doing and she would always give me updates. One day I asked and she didn't want to tell me. They had vanished!! She has tried to find them to no avail. I went home and Googled the woman's email address. It took me to a Myspace page where the first thing I saw was Burt and Spot for sale! I pretended to be a buyer that REALLY wanted the horses. We set the date for that Saturday to go and get them.
I chose not to go because she had told me in emails Spot. . . She called her Sway. . . could be ridden and had been bred. I was so mad about that. My husband Roy went with them with another woman posing as his wife. Jeanne didn’t show herself when they drove up and the woman led the horses out.
The minute they were on the trailer, Jeanne let her presence be known, and the woman went right to her computer, and, boy, did I get some nasty emails. That is when I told her I was Spot's owner. Then she tried to say she never said she was a rehab/rescue but I had EVERYTHING printed out.
I cried like a baby when I saw my girl!! The first thing we did was have the vet check her to see if she was pregnant. Thankfully she wasn't as she could have never given birth. Her pelvic had knitted back together. I let her be with her pasture buddy who she still remembered.
We had her about two more years before I noticed she wasn't grazing. She didn't even care to be with her best pal and I knew it was time to put her down. I hate to say that . . . it sounds so harsh. She was just in too much pain. But at least she was with me and not someone that could not care less she was hurt!
In the end, Spot was home and with those who loved and cared for her.
