We have fantastic news! The owner of the sale barn in Sulphur, Oklahoma recognized Missie and the trailer. (We had flyers around the area and close friends who were providing information to Sulphur horse people.) They contacted us and we flew to Sulphur. Missie and her baby have been reunited, the trailer and tack have been recovered. Thank you to all who have prayed for us, spread the word, or offered support.

In our process to recover Missie, we have made flyers and passed them to everyone we could think of. My mother in Arkansas had pictures of the trailer and so she sent them to us so that we could add that information to our flyers. I have a brother-in-law in Nebraska who is a trucker. We sent information to him to spread out. Ashley and Zack (Ashley’s boyfriend) took flyers all over Stillwater, hoping that someone might have seen something. I sent flyers to a friend in Ada who spread them around a horse show nearby.

In the meantime, we have tried to go to horse sales around the area. If we heard of one, we went. Missie was taken Friday. There was a sale here in Shawnee the same weekend, but it was strictly a catalog sale, so Missie was not there. Ashley went to a sale in Hennessy on Saturday, but did not fine Missie. Gary (my husband, Ashley’s Dad) went to Purcell, but there was no sale there. He also traveled to Weatherford, Texas and Fr. Worth, Texas to give them information. On Sunday, we heard there was a sale in Jones, so we went to Jones. But their sale is on Thursday, so we left a flyer there. We were lined up to attend sales at Sulphur (Monday), Perkins (Wednesday), and Purcell (Thursday).

We were advised by those associated with the Sulphur sale to be sure to attend. They knew that they would have 200 or more horses, so the more “eyes” we had to look, the better.
Roy and Theresa Provence (Zack’s grandparents from Ringling) have been talking to people all around Sulphur. They know the owner of the sale barn and the auctioneers. They were instrumental in helping Sulphur folks know what to look for. It was Mr. Freeman who spotted the trailer and horse. He called Roy, who headed to Sulphur from Ringling. Gary was already on his way to Sulphur and I was also on my way. Ashley called me with news that the owner thought he had spotted Missie. The sheriff was called and Ashley provided details of little scars to Joe Raymer over the phone. (Joe had the horse in hand at this time.) Ashley called me again to tell me that it was indeed Missie and that she and Zack were on their way from Stillwater. At this point, I was twenty minutes from the sale barn (and in tears!).

When I arrived, I saw the trailer immediately. I called Joe and found him by the truck with our tack. I identified it and then went to see Missie. Meanwhile, Ashley had started to Sulphur from Stillwater. So, I stayed with the horse – talking to her and petting her. Zack’s grandparents joined me and Gary took care of the details the officer needed. The officer was able to use the netposse report on the horse and trailer to confirm the tack found. When Ashley and Zack arrived, she went to the horse and they hugged each other immediately. We completed check out, showed our papers, and loaded Missie to take her to her baby. That was a wonderful reunion.

Missie has a cut on her face, one on her neck, and a nick on her foot. She is dehydrated and hungry. But the cuts will heal and we are making sure that she is being fed and watered appropriately. She and the baby seem very relieved at this point.

Thank you for your concern and support. I hope that Ashley can confirm names and any other details. If we can help others prevent theft or catch thieves, we will be happy to do so. And maybe our story can help others have hope and recover their horses as well.
