Jake, her trusted gelding was mistakenly taken to a horse auction. Read her grandmothers account of the events and her feelings in her story below.
My name is Penny Bobo and my granddaughter's horse Jake was mistakenly taken to the Sugar creek, Ohio horse auction on of all days Friday August 13th.
We put him in a field for extra pasture. My brother-in-law had horses in there to take to the auction and I did not realize it. So, the guy that loaded the horses took Jake too.
When my husband came home we went over to see Jake. He was not in the field! We looked and looked for him.
Kiah hollered, “JAKE! JAKE! DON'T DO THIS TO MOMMY! COME ON JAKE!” But no Jake.
We went to a friend's house and told them. He called my brother-in-law on his cell phone and asked if he had sold a dark brown standard breed with a black mane and tail and four black socks. My brother-in-law said, “Yes!”
Kiah started to cry and my friend told him that it was Kiah's horse Jake. She cried and cried.
I called my sister-in-law Elaine Bryant. She got on the internet, I’m still learning about it and found Debi Metcalfe and NetPosse. Elaine called Sugar Creek and told them what happened. They gave us names and numbers and me and Elaine started calling. Everyone was very helpful and hoped we got him back.
The last number I called had him. We made arrangements to meet in Pikeville , Kentucky on August 18th at 12:15.
JAKE, JUMPED OUT OF THE TRAILER and ALMOST INTO MY ARMS. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO BE A SPOT ON WAL-MART'S PARKING LOT. IF HE WAS A DOG HE WOULD BE WAGGING HIS TAIL.
He is home and he and Kiah are happy. He is home in time for her 9th birthday. He gets a birthday hat too.
I want to tell you my horses will definitely be getting a brand and a chip because you never know what can happen be it by accident or on purpose. I do not want to go through this again or put my granddaughter through it again.
I can tell you that I will sleep well tonight knowing he is back home. Kiah wanted to sleep in the field with him. I told her I might just join her but she is asleep on the floor with his lead rope.
I want to thank each and every one of you who have e-mailed, prayed, called, offered the use of you trailers or to go get him. I am sure I have probably have forgotten some one but it was not on purpose.
I THANK ALL OF YOU. I WANT TO ESPECIALLY THANK DEBI, NETPOSSE, POSSE WATCHERS. AND ELAINE FOR WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE DONE.
AGAIN THANK EVERYONE FRON THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, KIAH'S AND JAKE'S.
