Mariah, an approximate 7.5-year-old mare, owned by Lynn Ferraro, was found based on tips from people who saw the fliers advertising the missing horse, Resident State Trooper Peter DiGioia said late Wednesday afternoon.
Someone who wished to remain anonymous saw the flier Ferraro had posted about Mariah, who had been missing since Sept. 8, DiGioia said. The tips revealed the jet black horse with a white blaze on its nose was at a farm in Marlborough, he said.
"Troopers from Troop K checked the address, and sure enough they were able to locate her," DiGioia said, adding the horse has been returned to her rightful owner.
Ferraro was pleased to have Mariah back in the paddock.
"She was found way up in Marlborough," she said Thursday. DiGioia assisted in the recovery of Mariah, as well as arranging for a trailer to bring her back to Durham, Ferraro said.
Prior to Mariah’s recovery, the last time Ferraro saw the horse was at a noon feeding on Sept. 8 in the paddock of a Foot Hills Road farm. When she went to feed her horses in the evening, the gate to the pasture was open and Mariah was gone, according to Ferraro.
It was undisclosed whether any criminal action would be taken.
