My horse King, appeared suddenly on King Road near Weston Road late this evening (Sunday). He ran up out of the ditch and stopped on the road. The driver who nearly hit him got out and caught him, then called 911. They took him into Kinghaven Farms at Weston Road and called me. That's about 15 miles from here.
He's very battered. He's probably lost 50 or 100lbs. He has a huge lump under his belly. Both hind legs are filled and a bit hot. He has no cuts on his legs, but has a ton of them all over both sides and his hindquarters. He's very nervous and unsettled. But fundamentally he seems to be okay. I'll get the vet out tomorrow to check him out.
While he was missing, King was featured on the evening news of CityTV, GlobalTV, and CTV. Two of them did follow up stories. So all told he appeared on the evening news four nights out of the eight that he was missing. He was also on 680News radio, CP24, Breakfast Television, and A-Channel. I think (and the police seem to agree) that most likely all the media attention spooked the thieves and they dropped him off. The likelihood of him getting across Yonge Street and the Highway 400 on his own without being either hit by a car or seen by anyone for eight days is pretty slim. It's a very highly developed area with a lot of traffic.
best, Deanna
