The many hours that Shea Mineau, 12, of Butternut spent working on her family farm and raising hogs to sell as a member of the 4-H Club was certainly commendable. When she finally had enough saved up, with the help of her parents, her lifelong dream of having her own horse came true. A handsome 9-year old black and white paint with four white stockings and a blaze down the middle of his forehead was welcomed to the Mineau farm.
Shea’s enjoyment of her treasured horse “Cherokee” or “Chico” was not to last long however. Two weeks after she brought Cherokee home one of the guests at her birthday party on October 11 was riding the new horse when it started to trot and the rider slid off – while Cherokee (in full tack and saddle) kept on trotting.
