We're never happy when horses are stolen, but hearing that lots of them are being stolen - and just vanishing? That brings up the specter of the newly re-opened slaughterhouses. Never a good feeling.
Yet in the Spencer, OK area, that is precisely what police believe is happening. There are just too many thefts with no leads that go anywhere. That is - until Terry Kellum turned detective and went looking for his two microchipped horses and brought them home.
Kellum filed the police report, then hit the road for nearby Meeker. A new slaughterhouse had opened up. As soon as he drove on the property, he saw his horses.
Lesson for everyone here - the owner of the facility did not deny that the horses might be Kellum's. But he wanted PROOF - AND he wanted his money back. Kellum could provide the proof with the microchip information. Plus - he told the man that he wasn't responsible for his money problems.
Police are searching for those responsible.
