NetPosse and Equine Rescue Volunteer Opportunity

Image

Equine rescue organizations play a vital role in safeguarding vulnerable horses, offering them a second chance at a healthy and fulfilling life. However, there is more that you can do within your specific duties. We are seeking committed individuals to collaborate with us and expand our efforts in rescuing missing horses before they are lost forever.

The Need for Committed Volunteers

Our NetPosse team is small, and the number of horses requiring assistance is vast. Attending every sale and auction is simply impractical. This is where your participation becomes invaluable. We especially need volunteers with equine experience and access to social media groups, equine events, and horse auctions. This includes those who are physically present at an auction or equine event and have mobile devices with photography capabilities.

Making a Difference

As a volunteer, you will directly contribute to identifying and rescuing horses that are missing, stolen, or being sought for another reason. Your efforts will help us provide timely intervention and support to these animals, and hopefully reunite them with their owners. Every photo, every evaluation, every post link shared, and every detail you provide can make a difference between life and death.

Specific Task

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluating horses based on NetPosse Alerts and rescue criteria.
  • Photographing possible horses from all angles, capturing clear images of markings, brands, and any distinguishing features.
  • Verifying the gender of each horse.
  • Assessing horses within both kill pen and general auction groups, noting why you think it is the horse in the NetPosse Alert.

Detailed Responsibilities

Photography:

  • Full body shots (left, right, front, rear).
  • Close-ups of markings (stars, socks, brands).
  • Detailed photos of any injuries.
  • Detailed photos of permanent equine identification, including brands, freeze marks, and lip tattoos.

Evaluation:

  • Assess the horse's body condition (thin, average, overweight).
  • Note any visible injuries, lameness, or signs of illness.
  • Observe the horse's temperament and behavior.
  • Compare the horse's description in NetPosse Alerts to verify its identity.
  • Use the website Search feature to find the horse by NetPosse report number or description.

Scour Social Media

Monitor social media posts for horses that might correspond to a horse in one of our NetPosse Alerts. Before contacting Stolen Horse International-NetPosse Missing and Stolen Equine:

  • Compare the horse's description in NetPosse Alerts to verify its identity.
  • Use the website Search feature to find the horse by NetPosse report number or description.
  • Copy the post link and send it to us along with a screenshot.
  • Please document where you see the horse.

The Impact of Your Involvement

Your contribution as a volunteer is invaluable. By dedicating your time and expertise, you will significantly enhance our ability to identify and rescue horses in the network and on general internet postings of horses. Your efforts will directly translate into saved lives and brighter futures for those you help recover. Join us in making a positive impact on the lives of horses.

We highlighted the urgent need for volunteers to assist equine rescue organizations, the specific tasks involved (including photography and evaluation), and the significant impact of volunteer contributions on saving horses' lives. Your participation can genuinely make a difference!
