What does a stolen car and horses wandering down a residential neighborhood have in common?

As it turns out, plenty.

The Modesto Bee reports that at 7 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017, Riverbank Police Services deputies were dispatched to two calls: a report of a stolen car that drove through a fence and another report of four horses wandering around a residential community.

According to Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Jon McQueary, the horses were in a pasture in which the stolen car crashed. The runaway horses took off through the gaping fence hole in the back of the pasture while the driver took off on foot toward Riverbank High School.

The horses went down some appropriately named streets near their pasture, Canter Drive and Colt Way, before reaching the intersection of Claus and Kentucky Avenue.

Sgt. McQueary followed the horses through more streets as he waited for the owners to respond to arrive. The horses were coaxed off the road and into a field by someone with hay who lived in the community.

Eventfully the owners arrived and were able to load all of the horses onto their trailer.

Jose Machuca and his father owned the stolen car, a Ford Explorer, which was found it in the pasture.

The person who stole it has not been located.
