Niles, NY — Where in the world is Guernsey? How did this 1400 pound horse disappear, “poof” into the night without a trace? Last seen at the couple’s barn Monday night, they wonder how such an easy going horse can just disappear.
State police are investigating his disappearance from Rodger and Suzanne Head’s farm as a theft.
The 14.4 hands tall 30-year old American Paint Horse was reported missing Tuesday, July 26, 2016 from 4098 Route 41A in Niles, NY. Guernsey was wearing a halter when she was last seen.
Suzanne went out for Guernsey’s morning feeding and the horse was nowhere to be found. The couple and hired hand searched along the entire fence line of a two-acre fenced in pasture where the horse lives on the 425 acre farm.
Suzanne and Rodger wonder if someone has taken Guernsey. Trooper Jon Austin, the officer in charge of the investigation, will not comment on the case.
Guernsey could have escaped the pasture, but she has been in this particular pasture for almost 9 years and has never tried to get out before. They fear she was stolen and taken to an auction. Her pasture is close to the road and it would be easy for someone to load her onto a horse trailer and drive away. There is no evidence that has happened, no tire tracks or footprints.
Rodger and Suzanne have owned Guernsey for 25 years and have never had a problem with her getting out. Anyone with information is asked to call Suzanne and Rodger at (315) 430-2622 or (607)745-5383, the state police or the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office at (315) 253-1222.
