Have You Seen This Horse? Missouri Couple Begs for Clues

21 July 2016

According to RiverFront Times news story, A Missouri couple is begging for the return of its therapy horse.

Suzanne and Mark Lenz report that Cooper, their 12-year-old Palomino Missouri Fox Trotter Gelding, went missing from his pasture in Cedar Hill, Missouri, on July 11. He hasn’t been seen since.

As of now, it isn’t clear how the horse got out of the pasture, or if it was removed. The gates of the pasture were shut and no signs of trailer, truck or hoof prints have been found, the family says.

The Lenzes are desperate to get him back.

“Cooper has helped Mark overcome a severe accident … when Mark was run over and almost died,” Suzanne Lenz says in a press release. “Cooper is his therapy horse not only for building strength in his legs but also to help Mark have the will to live. Mark has special stirrups for him to ride. We have searched everywhere and no sign.”

The pasture is about 45 minutes south of St. Louis in Jefferson County. Mark Lenz has searched for Cooper for more than 35 hours.

“Cooper is everything to Mark. Cooper is very loyal to Mark and he understands Mark's difficulties. We are asking for the community to help us find our horse. We plea to the public to help get our family back together and help us find this horse,” Suzanne Lenz says in the family's statement.

The family is working with Stolen Horse International, a “lost and found” for horses and the equestrian community. On its website www.netposse.com the nonprofit offers info on horse theft and help with rescuing stolen or missing horses. Think of it as an Amber Alert system … for horses.

According to Stolen Horse International's website, there is a 42 percent rescue rate for missing horse cases posted on the site. The non-profit was started in 1997 by Debi Metcalfe, after her husband's horse was stolen and recovered 51 weeks later.

Have information or want to help? Cooper’s Netposse page: https://netposse.com/view_report.asp?reportid=4990. The site has information, a printable flyer, and is where any updates or leads will be posted.

The Lenz family is also offering a reward for anyone who returns the horse.
