Humane Euthanasia - It is the united opinion of Veterinarians for Equine Welfare (VEW) professionals that horse slaughter is inhumane, and that it is an unacceptable way to end a horse's life under any circumstance. They believe that it is an unethical and dangerous practice for the AVMA and AAEP to attempt to equate horse slaughter with humane euthanasia. Here are humane euthanasia video clips from VEW provided by Judy Marteniuk, DVM. Dr. Marteniuk is a faculty member at Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, where she specializes in Equine Medicine in the Department of Large Animal Clinical sciences.. ** Note from one of the anti slaugher movements biggest supporters John Holland, about this article - "The USA Today has repeatedly published pro-slaughter articles without regard for the truth. This article isn't ok. They aren't looking for facts If you can't trust the USA Today on this issue, can you trust them on any issue?"

Horse Slaughtering Inspires Plant's Last Gasp Amid Illinois Ban -
Sept. 5, 2007 (Bloomberg) -- DeKalb, Illinois, might brag about being the hometown of Cindy Crawford, but the supermodel moved away long ago. All the more reason to embrace the town's other claim to fame: It's the U.S. horse-slaughter capital.
Illinois legislators passed a law that would shut DeKalb's Cavel International Inc. plant, the only remaining equine slaughterhouse in the U.S. They assert that killing horses for human consumption is inhumane. Cavel lawyers, supported by business leaders in the town an hour west of Chicago, are challenging the horse-slaughter ban on grounds that it violates international commerce rules.

Program to save horses dooms them By Martha Mendoza, Associated Press writer
RENO, Nev. -- A multimillion-dollar federal program created to save the lives of wild horses is instead channeling them by the thousands to slaughterhouses where they are chopped into cuts of meat.
Among those profiting from the slaughter are employees of the Bureau of Land Management, the federal agency that administers the program.
These are the conclusions of an Associated Press investigation of the U.S. Wild Horse and Burro Program, which has rounded up 165,000 animals and spent $250 million since it was created by Congress 25 years ago.
