Do horses have the ability to remember each other after long periods of time?

Many years ago, September 17, 1998 to be exact, we brought our stolen horse Idaho home. She had been gone from our property for 51 weeks. It was a miracle we ever found Idaho

We already knew from her reaction to my husband when she first saw him in Tennessee that she remembered him. It was clear she remembered me and our children as well. What we didn’t know was if she’d remember her pasture mates and her daughter.

We found ourselves asking each other this question, "Do horses bond as friends as humans do?"

We were not sure until we let Idaho out into the pasture for the first time. Once again she was adored by most and scorned by the dominate mare.

It was one of the most beautiful sights we’ve ever witnessed. That is until today when we saw this video.

The title is spot on when it comes to, “Their reaction has me in tears.”

My husband and I were mesmerized as we watched Idaho meet Charliehorse, Secret, Honey, Skeeter and her daughter Montana again. Their reactions to each other had us in tears and implanted a memory that has lasted almost two decades. I expect it will last a lifetime.

If you want to get as close as you can get to experiencing a reunion like this, watch this video.

I promise you that you will have water in your eyes, a smile in your heart and possibly even a teardrop on your cheek.

No doubt about it. They remember!
