MISSING EQUINE – PIE – Maryland

Mt. Airy (FREDERICK COUNTY), MD Thursday, June 30, 2016

Wednesday June 29, 2016, Valerie Vollmers’ beloved horse, Pie, was reported missing from her pasture off of the Medd Avenue and Pennshop Road area in Mt. Airy, MD.

Valerie Vollmers asked Stolen Horse International for assistance in locating her horse. Ms. Vollmers advised that Pie was last seen Wednesday June 29, 2016. She was informed that Pie and several other horses got out of their pasture after some young kids were going into the pasture with their vehicles and when they left, they left all the gates wide open to the pasture. 11 horses got out of the pasture. 4, possibly 5, of 11 horses are still missing. Pie is one of the horses that is still missing. Ms. Vollmers has notified both Howard County Police Department and Howard County Sheriff Department.

Stolen Horse International, a nonprofit organization also known as NetPosse.com, is well known as the “lost and found’ place for horses on the internet for the equine industry. NetPosse.com offers horse theft and equine ID education and assist in search and recovery of stolen or missing horses, as well as other equine equipment.

“I rescued Pie’s mother from a kill lot. She was pregnant with Pie at the time.”, says Valerie Vollmers. “So I essentially saved two lives that day. Pie was born at my farm on a Good Friday. She is a sweet, loving pony.” Ms. Vollmers added that she wants to alert the public that there have been many recent reports of people going into pastures and leaving the gates open resulting in horses being let out. She went on to state that she grew up in the time when you did not have to worry about putting a lock on your gates. She stated that unfortunately, these people are going into the pastures and not only endangering the animals but also themselves. Ms. Vollmers confirmed that there are several people out searching for Pie and that they plan to send a drone up to look for her tomorrow.

On June 30, 2016, Stolen Horse International, Inc. received the first online report on its web site, www.NetPosse.com, filed by Vollmers and, in short order, began distributing the information via their NetPosse Alert (the horse community’s Amber Alert) on the Internet to hundreds of social media groups and private email contacts in an effort to rally the public to help the family.

You will find Pie’s webpage with information and a printable flyer in her NetPosse.com listing, which is where any updates or leads will be posted. People interested in helping can search for report number NR004974 or use this direct link on the NetPosse.com site: https://netposse.com/view_report.asp?reportid=4974

“Circulating Pie’s flyer and the NetPosse.com Alert nationwide is imperative, as the horse could be anywhere by now. These flyers are one tool that brings home many horses and must be posted in as many public places as possible,” says Debi Metcalfe, founder of Stolen Horse International. “And remember, not everyone has internet access. Please post Pie’s flyer in public places as well.”

Pictures, flyer, contact information, updates and other information are on the NetPosse webpage to identify this case quickly when calling in a tip. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Valerie Vollmers or Stolen Horse International with information.
