You've heard the saying "No good deed goes unpunished". That must be what the good people at Springfield Stables, a horse sanctuary, must be feeling right now.
The stables, located in Surrey, UK, takes in horses rescued by the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for those unfamiliar). They had just finished doing a refurbishment. The doors were custom made and larger than ordinarily used. The hinges were also custom. The thieves also availed themselves of a bag of nails intended to be used on the roof.
As a direct result of the theft, wind damage to the roof occurred lifting a great deal of the roof off the structure.
Jemma Wellingham, director of the stables, had gone out to check on the horses at 7:30 am of Oct. 10, but when she returned at 1:30 pm, the doors were gone. The neighbor who was working from home did not hear the people taking the doors. Other doors on the stable were also tampered with.
CCTV and a security system is now in place. Police feel that the perps will return. Let's hope they get caught "red handed" next time!
