Report a Missing Owner... ( Found Horse)
FORMS WORK IN INTERNET EXPLORER - may not work in other browsers
We are working to fix this and apologize for any inconvenience.
This form is to be used for the following reasons:
- A horse has been found running at large or estray in the woods, on a road, etc.
- A strange horse has appeared on your property or in your pasture
- 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and animal control (horse rescues, humane societies, etc.) may file this report for horses residing under their care within 10 days of obtaining the animal(s) in an attempt to find their legal owners
ALL other reports must be filed under one of the forms found at Index of Report Forms
NOTE: If you have legally purchased a horse at auction, online or through some other means, but wish to find a previous owner or the horse's history. you cannot use this form. Please go to the "Searching for Horse" form and follow those instructions.
Please answer all information as fully and accurately as possible.
All possible fields need to be completed. Filer's info is REQUIRED or report will not be accepted.
Because every estray livestock law that we are aware of requires that a person finding an animal report it to local LAW ENFORCEMENT (not a humane society), we cannot process reports any more without an incident report being filed and a case number given.
Per most local laws, law enforcement is required to seize the animal, attempt publicly to find the owner, and then sell the animal at auction if the owner isn't found. These time periods usually range from 3 to 10 days. However, we have often found that law enforcement does not seize the animal and the finder becomes the caretaker. Be sure to consult your local laws. We also recommend you keep records of all expenses incurred to board and care (and any damages caused) for the animal in the event compensation needs to be paid.
Many reports are not able to be passed on to volunteers because of incomplete information. Please send photos in jpeg format in 300dpi (if possible)
to
reports@netposse.com at
the time of filing report. This saves critical time.
