What is an IDAHO Alert?
An Idaho Alert, named for Idaho, the stolen mare whose recovery was the beginning of SHI, is a globally-transmitted notice of a confirmed missing/stolen horse.  When a horse is missing, time is of the essence. With the Stolen Horse International (SHI) Idaho Alerts, (equine theft alert) you'll be able to view the flyer, pictures of the horse, description, and key information that may help bring him or her home.

How are IDAHO Alerts sent out?
Stolen Horse International issues IDAHO Alerts which are sent to volunteer NetPosse members from the email address idahonc@aol.com

Be creative and place the information where you have contacts.  If you receive an IDAHO Alert you can do one or all of the following examples.

  • Print the flyer and post in  your community
  • Pass the information to  your friends and ask them to do the same.
  • Post info on your list and newsgroups
  • Take the flyer with you to auctions
  • Post in auctions
  • Give to auction owners, auctioneers and secretaries.
  • Post to Law Enforcement contacts
  • Put flyer on your website
  • Put link to SHI on your website. Click here for link information.

How will I know if -- and when -- a missing horse has been returned safely?
When a horse is safely recovered, SHI typically sends a follow-up Idaho Alert to notify NetPosse volunteers  that the IDAHO Alert is cancelled and the horse is home.  When information is provided by victim a story of the recovery will follow.

The voluntary IDAHO Alert  system is a partnership which includes people in law enforcement, news media and those of us who believe that you must...
